USA IMMIGRATION NEWS Corporations Fight for Change in US Immigration Laws Monday, 28 June 2010 CEOs from several leading corporations such as Hewlett-Packard, Boeing and Disney have joined together with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to form a coalition that would advocate changes regarding the current US immigration policy. Michael Bloomberg has criticized the US Federal Government for their immigration laws, and has suggested a plan to track and identify all legal US workers using a DNA or fingerprinting database as proposed in 2006. The powerful coalition, which also includes other big city mayors, calls itself "The Partnership for a New American Economy" and hopes to reframe the current immigration policies as a way to further stimulate the recovering USA economy. "If you want to solve the unemployment problem in America, you have to open the doors to immigrants who will come in here, create businesses, because when the tide comes in, everybody's boat rises. We [therefore,] need more immigrants, not less" states Michael Bloomberg. One of the main changes that the Partnership for a New American Economy hopes to include is by establishing a path that illegal immigrants would follow to obtain legal status to live in the US. The coalition has further explained their motives during a Fox News Conference report. Robert Iger, the Walt Disney Chief Executive in his comments regarding immigration, stated that "It's our great strength as a nation, and it's also critical for continued economic growth to remain competitive in the 21st century. We need an effective immigration reform that invites people to contribute to our shared success by building their own American dream." The group explained that it will be using such tactics as "publishing studies, conducting polls, convening forums and sponsoring public education programs" to further gain support of the US public and pressure Congressmen for change. These changes reflect the fact that: * There is a growing demand for immigrants within the US * Companies are fighting to further increase the amount of immigrants that migrate to the US * The US economy is steadily recovering.
